How to Join a Zoom Class for Students and Parents

thank you for joining us for another on demand parent professional development today we will be showing you how to join a zoom for class and some basic features your child may need to use it is important to note that you do not have to have a zoom account in order to join the zoom class so creating an account can help to speed up the process for future let's get started open your web browser and type Zoom got us in the address bar this will take you to the main webpage of Zoom once you on this page click one on join a meeting if you are new to zoom you will receive a. download message make sure to click run when the pop-up box comes up if you have used them before this step will not appear once them has finished loading you can continue to join the zoom meeting or you can sign into them we encourage your how to log in using their Sheldon ISD Google email address and password by signing in Xoom will remember their account information in settings for quicker an easier future login if you scroll to the bottom they can sign in with their Google email address here once you have downloaded them or signed in the screen will appear and you can continue to click join a meeting again in the top right hand corner enter the meeting ID number provided by your teacher in this box will be in 11 digit number please pay play special attention to the numbers to make sure that you enter them correctly if there is a meeting password entered here please pay special attention to the password to make sure you enter it correctly also if there is not a password you will automatically bypass this step if there is a waiting room for the Zim class the screen will appear be patient and wait for your teacher to let you in once you were let into the zoom meeting the screen will appear click on the blue button join computer audio you can bypass this feature in the future if you click on the small gray box in the bottom left corner you will then be entered into the zoom welcome to class depending on your settings the screen May reflect a live image of you if your camera is on a black screen with your name or a black screen with your profile picture if it has been previously set up once in the zoom you will see your certain fellow classmates begin to appear on the screen click in the top right corner for speaker view or gallery view to determine which praying you would like to see during class it is highly suggested to choose speaker of you and whomever is speaking will be shown with a large screen you can turn your microphone off and on by clicking the unmute and mute button in the bottom left-hand corner in addition you can turn your live video off and on by clicking start video and stop video in the bottom left-hand Corner we advise you to leave a microphone is muted or turned off unless instructed by the teacher this will help to decrease extra noise as more students join the class remember to turn microphone on when you wish to share comment or answer the teacher you can also check to see if your microphone and video is working by clicking on these two buttons on the bottom left-hand portion of the screen this will bring up a sub menu to allow you to change settings once you click on the settings for the microphone it will bring you to this page here you can test to see if your microphone is working and test your speakers in the same menu you can click the video settings most importantly make sure to have the box checked always display participant names in their video this is important as this will be part of the teachers attendance procedure students will be you. I think the chat feature a great deal in order to use this feature click on this button in a long box will appear to the right of the screen students may add their responses to the discussion here also the teacher May provide links to assignments and activities in the chat box there also may be a clickable link or a link that you can copy and paste into a new web address if a student has been granted permission to share their screen they will click on the green box indicated here once clicking the green share screen box the screen will appear and then they will choose which screen they wish to share please wait a few moments for the screen to upload into Zoom for all participants to see if you are sharing something that has sound like music a video or other recording make sure to click the Box labeled share computer sound in the bottom left him corner of the screen the last important feature we will share today will be about accurately displaying the students name if the student is using a device or account that belongs to another person their name may not show correctly here's how to change the participants name so it can accurately reflect a stew click on the participant button at the bottom of the screen a large box will appear with all attendees on the zoom on the right hand side of the screen look for the name the account is listed as it will usually be the first or second listing in labeled as me in parentheses click on the name and two blue boxes will appear titled unmute and more click more button and then a button titled rename will appear click on rename and then enter the correct student first and last name and finally when you have completed your wonderful class session of the day your teacher will instruct you that it is time to go you will click on the red button in the bottom right-hand corner titled leave click on the link button and zoom will ask you if you are sure you wish to leave the meeting you will click yes you will then be logged out of Zoom if you have additional questions regarding zone or technology please contact your teacher or the help desk line for further assistance thank you so very much for joining us for another parent on demand professional development
